Livewire Opera Company is presenting W S Gilbert & Sir Arthur Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance.
This swashbuckling yarn follows Frederic, indentured to kind hearted pirates with a soft spot for orphans like themselves. When he returns to land he falls in love with the fair daughter of an inept Major General, Mabel, much to the consternation of the more homely Ruth – a middle aged maid of all works who until then has been the only woman that Frederic has ever seen. Watch out for the rather unusual set of policeman! This story of love, duty and loyalty boasts a score including some of Arthur Sullivan’s best-loved music, and W S Gilbert’s most witty lyrics - with songs such as With Cat-Like Tread, When The Foeman Bares His Steel, and of course, I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major-General.
