Alissa Firsova was born in Moscow in 1986, into a family of composers, Elena Firsova and Dmitri Smirnov. In 1991 she moved to England with her family, and at the age of 8 began to study piano with Tatiana Kantorovich. In 1999-2004 she continued studying piano and composition at the Purcell School, where her piano teachers included James Gibb and Simon Mulligan. In 2004 Alissa entered the Royal Academy of Music studying piano under Hamish Milne, and conducting under Paul Brough. Alissa won the BBC/Guardian/Proms Composer Competition in 2001, and recorded the winning piece for Radio 3, which led to workshops with Leonard Slatkin and Mark-Anthony Turnage. She has received commissions from ABRSM, Seattle Chamber Players, Larchikov Duo and Dartington, Two Moors, Liverpool and Cheltenham festivals. Alissa recorded Smirnov's “String of Destiny” for Megadisc. In April - June 2007 Alissa gave 4 successful concerts at Duke's Hall with orchestra, performing Franck Symphonic Variations. Most recently Alissa performed at the Messiaen Festival in South Bank at the Purcell Room. She has just completed her undergraduate course, and will continue studying at the Royal Academy with Hamish Milne and Ian Fountain, due to the generous support of the Countess of Munster Trust. She looks forward to hearing a world premiere of her clarinet concerto in Seattle in April, giving her Wigmore Hall solo debut in May as part of the Park Lane Group, and developing her conducting studies at the Royal Academy.
This is one of regular thursday evening piano concerts at this architecturally stunning venue. Free refreshments will be served and the concert ends at 8.30pm. |
