On Saturday July 4th Leatherhead Choral Society, one of the area’s most popular and successful choirs, will perform an evening of jazz and gospel music including John Rutter’s Feel The Spirit. The society, now in its 81st year, has gained a reputation for its bold and varied programming, including a sell-out performance of Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man at the Leatherhead Theatre in November 2008.
For its first all-jazz concert, entitled ‘Deep River’ after one of the gospel songs in Feel The Spirit, the society will be conducted, as always, by Ian Assersohn. The inspirational Assersohn has written a number of new arrangements for the evening, including Blue Moon, True Love and Ain’t Misbehavin’. The concert will also include a performance of Bob Chilcott’s popular Little Jazz Mass.
