St George's Singers open their 60th anniversary season with a programme of music for choir, for solo voice and for orchestra by Johannes Brahms. We are thrilled to be performing with two award-winning soloists; soprano Elizabeth Watts has been described as "One of the most beautiful voices Britain has produced in a generation", and baritone Marcus Farnsworth, formerly the Choir's Assistant Musical Director and now their President is now in much demand on the international opera stage and in recital.

Written over a period of years in his early 30s, Ein deutsches Requiem was his first major work for choir and orchestra, unique in its concept and a tour-de-force in its execution. Rather than the traditional Catholic plea for the souls of the dead, this beautiful Requiem, with text written by Brahms himself and based on German text from the Lutheran bible, seeks to bring peace and comfort to the bereaved.
