Since their establishment in 2013, The Deco Ensemble have been praised as an "exceptional ensemble of the highest calibre with a strong and highly individual voice". Deco's adventurous approach has its origins in the music of Astor Piazzolla, who in the 1960s formed his own ensemble and laid down the foundations of Nuevo Tango. The members of Deco Ensemble have combined their spirit of fearless exploration to re-imagine the sound of the Nuevo Tango quintet, combining classical, jazz, and world music influences.
Their exuberant and idiosyncratic repertoire includes works by composers such as Belgian modern classical writer Frédéric Devreese, twentieth century Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, traditional tango master Anibal Troilo, as well as more contemporary Argentinian tango artists such as Emiliano Greco, Ramiro Gallo, Diego Schissi, Nicolás Guerschberg and Gustavo Beytelmann.
They released their debut album Encuentro in July 2015, to critical acclaim. Having launched it at The Purcell Room, London, they toured extensively across Europe. Highlights from this season were sell-out performances at The Warsaw Philarmonic, Salle Cortot in Paris, Palazzo Brancaccio in Rome, and The European Parliament in Brussels. Additionally, they gave performances at a variety of UK festivals, including the City of London Festival, Norfolk and Norwich Festival, Oundle Festival, and Harwich Festival. In 2016, they are due to record a new album featuring works from contemporary tango composers.
