Celebrating its 23rd birthday in 2016, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra has gained a position among both Czech and Europe’s top symphonic ensembles. Moscow-born violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky joins the orchestra, conducted by renowned conductor Libor Pesek. Hailed for his fiery, energetic playing, The Strad called Sitkovetsky the ‘star of the New Century’.
The Music Festival Finale opens with Mozart’s ever popular overture, before welcoming Sitkovestsky to perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, one of the greatest works ever written for the instrument.
The final work truly demonstrates that Dvorák’s musical energy didn’t just inject new life into his own music; it shone a way for the late 19th century symphony to be profound in its musical implications as well as brilliant and immediate in its communicative power. Dvorák’s eighth symphony does just that, offering a rousing end to the Harrogate Music Festival in our 50th anniversary year.
