The first international orchestra to visit G Live this season is one of Russia’s finest, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra. The programme starts with Vaughan Williams’s ethereal Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis - a fascinating opportunity to hear a Russian orchestra play this great Vaughan Williams work.

This will be followed by one of the UK’s most distinguished violinists, Jennifer Pike, performing Tchaikovsky’s virtuosic Violin Concerto. In the second half the orchestra will play Tchaikovsky’s epic Symphony No 4, with its famous fate motif which opens and ends the symphony.
