  1. Choral Dances, from Gloriana Op 53 - Benjamin Britten
  2. 3 Shakespeare Songs (1951) - Ralph Vaughan Williams
  3. Fancies - Sven-Eric Johanson
  4. Shakespeare Songs Op 80 - William Matthias
  5. Music to hear - George Shearing, words by William Shakespeare

Our summer concert celebrates the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. We are performing a wonderfully varied programme which moves from the sublime Vaughan Williams partsongs which are classics of the genre to George Shearing’s jazz-inspired ‘Music to hear’ where a double bass player will add that pungent pizzicato to the mix! A pianist joins us for Shearing and for a fabulous set of ‘Fancies’ by the Swedish composer Sven-Eric Johanson and for William Mathias’s wide-ranging Shakespeare songs. With Britten’s colourful ‘Gloriana Dances’ setting us off this will be a memorable and enjoyable evening’s music.

This concert will feature extracts from Shakespeare spoken by Anton Lesser.
