  1. Passio Domini nostri Jesu Christi secundum Johannem - Arvo Pärt

Few post-baroque Passion settings can be said to reach the heights of Bach’s masterpieces, the St Matthew and St John Passions, but the Passio of Estonian composer Arvo Pärt is an extraordinary work that undoubtedly ranks as one of the greatest composed in recent times. Against a slow moving tide of hypnotic musical undulations the suffering at the heart of the Easter story gradually unfolds, connecting with the listener in an intensely powerful way.

Lumina is a small ensemble of young professional singers, mostly graduates of the highly-acclaimed Choir of Royal Holloway. The group seeks to enlighten people’s experience of choral music through innovative presentation of familiar repertoire whilst also introducing audiences to stimulating new choral sounds.

This performance will be enhanced with light projection by new media artist, Andy McKeown. McKeown’s dramatic light installations have brought to life some of the finest English buildings. His collaboration with Lumina follows on from highly successful dramatic enhancement of Britten’s Noye’s Fludde in Shrewsbury Abbey.

In the meditative setting of St Sepulchre’s, this performance promises to provide a profoundly moving experience.
