  1. Stabat Mater - Antonín Dvorák

Stabat Mater is a hauntingly beautiful work. Dvorak's composition was inspired by the deaths of his three young children in the 1870s and the cantata was first performed in 1880 in Prague.

The cantata is one of the less-performed choral works but is well worth getting to know. There is a full performance here

Durham Choral Society, Soloists and Orchestra come together to perform in Durham Cathedral. If you would like further information on Durham Choral Society please visit our website.

The beautiful photograph looking toward the Rose Window in Durham Cathedral was taken by John Attle.
