  1. Lyric Suite for String Quartet - Alban Berg
  2. String Quartet No 10 in E flat D87 - Franz Schubert
  3. String Quartet in D minor, 'Voces Intimae' Op 56 - Jean Sibelius

In 2013, the Escher String Quartet became one of the very few chamber ensembles to be awarded the prestigious Avery Fischer Career Grant and according to the Guardian, they are ‘clearly one of the finest quartets of their generation’. Obviously, we are very proud that they will be performing in Loughborough this spring! In their concert they will take us on a musical travel through time. The quartet will be performing a romantic piece by Schubert (which he wrote at the young age of 16!), an intimate and mysterious work from the 1900s by Sibelius and a more modern part (1925) by a Schönberg inspired Berg. A diverse programme that will show the great virtuosity of the musicians and will show why the name Escher fits this ensemble so well; just like Escher’s art this quartet consist of individual parts that come together to form a magical and enchanting whole.
