The CSO - Cheltenham's symphony orchestra - bring you three concerts from Scandinavian composers, the Northern Lights series. In this opening concert the orchestra is joined by the stellar Tamsin Waley-Cohen, a violinist who plays with power and delicate sensitivity, well suited to perform the violin concerto of Jean Sibelius. Many concert-goers will recall her spell as Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra Associate Artist in 2014 when she performed the concertos of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Brahms to great acclaim

Sibelius's 2nd Symphony must rank as many people's favourite. Here is an opportunity to experience the superlative playing of Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra's strings under David Curtis (conductor) who coaxes them to a shimmering Nordic sound that complements the majestic playing of the brass and the aching beauty of the woodwind.

The concert programme is ushered in by the ever-favourite Finlandia. All-in-all a fine start to this three concert series.
