  1. New Work - Simon Holt
  2. Quintet for Piano and Strings in A, 'Die Forelle' (Trout) D667 - Franz Schubert

Schubert’s popular and lyrical Trout Quintet forms the centerpiece of this lunchtime programme. Written for a group of friends and never intended to be performed publicly the Trout takes its name from its fourth movement which is a set of variations on Schubert's earlier Lied “Die Forelle" (The Trout). Acclamied pianist Steven Osbourne joins Britten Sinfonia musicians in this performance which also features a new work from Simon Holt, commissioned by Britten Sinfonia and Wigmore Hall.

“Soloist Steven Osborne found the ideal blend of muscular power and poetry, equally at ease dominating the orchestra as he was dropping away from the limelight into the accompanying role.” The Guardian

“The way he deploys instrumental timbres and creates mixes of sound conjures up, with his customary imagination, a compact score that is at once multi-faceted, ear-catching and clearly focused.” Geoffrey Norris, The Daily Telegraph on Simon Holt
