Bruckner's E minor Mass | Ely Choral Society

Ely Choral Society and the winds and brass of Wymondham Symphony Orchestra collaborate to present a rare opportunity to hear Anton Bruckner’s E minor Mass, his first recognised masterpiece. It was written to celebrate the building of the Votive Chapel of the new Cathedral in Linz. Because an outdoor performance was planned, the double choir is accompanied by wind and brass instruments. Here is true, unique Bruckner – a combination of Italian Renaissance simplicity, devoutness and poignancy, and full-blooded romantic harmonies and power in both vocal and instrumental writing. The programme also contains well-known Bruckner motets and works for brass and woodwind. The musical architecture of these works is enhanced by the generous acoustics and stunning stonework of Ely Cathedral’s Lady Chapel.
