Ensemble 360’s wind players and pianist Tim Horton perform a programme of audience favourites alongside lesser-known gems. Beethoven’s quintet is one of the most celebrated works in the piano and wind repertoire. Another well-loved piece, Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite is arranged here for wind quintet and piano, though it began life as a piano duet and was then transformed into a ballet. Based on children’s stories by Charles Perrault, it is an evocation of the innocence of childhood, with a simple beauty reminiscent of Satie’s Gymnopédies. Chanson Bohémienne is an arrangement by David Walter which features some of the best-loved themes from Bizet’s hugely celebrated opera Carmen.
