  1. Carnival - concert overture Op 92 - Antonín Dvorák
  2. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in A minor Op 53 - Antonín Dvorák
  3. Symphony No 5 in D minor Op 47 - Dmitry Shostakovich
We open with two melodic and uplifting works, full of that uniquely Czech blend of exuberance and nostalgia which only Dvorak offers. By contrast, Shostakovich's fifth symphony is an emotional and powerful masterpiece, probably his most well-known symphony.

There will be a free pre-concert talk by Roderick Dunk and Peter Palmer (Nottingham Evening Post) at 6.45pm in the Balmoral Suite.
