Born in York, Francesco studied at the City of Leeds College of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music with tutors Graham Wade and Gordon Crosskey. Whilst at Leeds he was twice awarded the College Guitar Prize as well as the Principal's Prize for Outstanding Performance. He gave his professional debut at the Wirral Guitar Festival whilst still a student at the Royal Northern. Whilst at the Royal Northern Francesco participated in several masterclasses with visting professor John Williams. After leaving college Francesco studied with Vladimir Mikulka and Carlos Bonell and received a British Reserve Scholarship to study with Roberto Aussell and the lutenist Nigel North. Francesco's playing has been heard at some of Britain's leading music festivals including the Bath International Guitar Festival, Wirral International Guitar Festival and Leeds International Concert Season. In addition Francesco has a wide experience of the broadcast media, having played recitals for Classic FM, Granada TV, Yorkshire TV and LWT. His playing has also been heard in collaboration with the film makers of Onedotzero.
Francesco's repertoire reflects the rich diversity of the guitar's heritage and covers the renaissance works of John Dowland, the lute suites of J S Bach, the 19th century showpieces of Sor and Guiliani, the Spanish repertory of Albeniz, De Falla and Rodrigo, through to the evocative rhythms of Latin America and the cutting edge of contemporary music.
