A celebration of musical genius shared by members of the same families, with works for solo soprano, choir and string ensemble by the Haydn brothers (Franz Joseph and Johann Michael); father and son (Leopold and Wolfgang) Mozart; and brother and sister (Felix and Fanny) Mendelssohn.

Come and enjoy well-known and much-loved choral classics such as Mendelssohn’s Hear my Prayer (which includes O for the wings of a dove) and Mozart’s Ave Verum and Laudate Dominum, together with a rare chance to hear beautiful music by historically overshadowed, yet extremely talented, composers. In recognition of City Chorus’s commitment to exploring interesting and lesser-known repertoire, this concert has generously been supported by the Music Reprieval Trust.

The City Chorus was formed in 1920 and performs in concert halls and churches in central London, covering a wide range of music from sixteenth century to modern choral compositions and arrangements. Based in the City and supported by the National Westminster Bank, the choir is open to all, and new voices are always welcome.

Paul Ayres studied music at Oxford University, and now works freelance as a composer & arranger, choral conductor & musical director, and organist & accompanist. His compositions usually involve words – solo songs, choral pieces, incidental music – and he works with many choirs and theatre groups. Paul is conductor of the London College of Music Chamber Choir and the Walbrook Singers, and he has given many solo organ recitals throughout the world.
