We are delighted to welcome the Open University Choir and Quorum to St Mary & St Giles Church for their Spring 2010 concert. The OU choir and Quorum are visiting our church to take advantage of the favourable acoustic and to help the Organ Fund. The concert celebrates the history of our Willis Organ, as music by William Bowie, who was organist on the instrument when it was at St George’s Church, Charlotte Square, Edinburgh, will be performed.
The programme includes music by Bach, Blitheman, Bowie, Britten, Byrd, Tallis, Croce, Farrant, Gabrielli, Kuhnau and Schutz.
One of the highlights of the concert will be two choirs singing Andrea Gabrielli’s 12 part Magnificat. It will be special because they will be above you in the galleries surrounding you with heavenly music. Solos on the organ will also be played.
Advance booking advisable.
