  1. Brundibar - Hans Krása
  2. Carmina Burana - Carl Orff

A fascinating juxtaposition of two works written during the Nazi ascendancy: Orff’s setting of medieval student songs remains enormously popular but only now is Krása’s short opera Brundibár (Bumblebee)becoming known. It was performed in the concentration camp of Terezín in a cynical attempt by the commandant to persuade the visiting Red Cross that conditions were decent, even humane. However, Krása and his young musicians outwitted these intentions by producing what was, in effect, a strong condemnation of all that the regime stood for.

All access for this concert is through the car park entrance. The Crypt is reached via stairs or lift. Please look for Cathedral Concert Society signs indicating the route. Doors normally open at 7pm

There will be a charge of £3 to use the Cathedral car park. This will be collected at the entrance gate.
