The acclaimed Oxfordshire trio Musical Banquet are making a welcome return visit to St Mary's, Aylesbury, to appear again in their renowned Music at Lunchtime series and will be performing an entertainment of vocal and instrumental music by Early English and European composers, including Purcell, Byrd, Gibbons, Falconiero and Frecsobaldi, interspersed with contemporary anecdotes. Travel back in time for this entertaining and highly unusual opportunity to experience works performed using period instruments, much as the 17th and 18th century audience would have heard them.
With plenty of surprises along the way, this one hour concert will be presented in the group's characteristically innovative and imaginative style and the new for 2013 menu includes some spicy 'musical nibbles' from 17th century Spain, accompanied by Baroque Guitar.
Dating back to 1271AD Buckinghamshire's beautiful County Church was restored in Victorian times by Sir Gilbert Scott. Located at the heart of the old town the building provides an appropriately historic setting in which to travel back in time with Musical Banquet, and all proceeds will go towards supporting future musical events. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to meet the artists and purchase refreshments from the outstanding Refectory, whose homemade cakes are legendary throughout throughout the county and beyond!
