Reactions and Reflections - a series of eight concerts curated by Amber Rainey. A Charlton House/ Regent Hall joint promotion, courtesy of Stephen Maw
The Reactions and Reflections Series commences with a performance at Charlton house, featuring students who are both studying and who have studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The programme for this concert brings to life a diverse collection of characters and figures, conjured up by some of the world’s leading writers, including Goethe and Shakespeare. Audiences will delight in the adventures of Spanish gentleman Don Quichotte, who sets out to revive chivalry. There is a haunting depiction of Lady Macbeth’s speech, the water siren Loreley who sends unsuspecting men to the deaths in the Rhine, Wolf’s setting of Mignon, from Göethe’s Wilhelmeister’s Apprentice and Debussy’s cello sonata, a representation of the French Pantomime, Pierrot Lunaire.
Pianist for this concert as well as artistic curator for this series, Amber Rainey currently holds a fellowship at the Guildhall School after having completed her Masters in Accompaniment there and winning the school’s accompaniment competition in 2010. Originally from New Zealand Amber has performed many times as part of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, has accompanied recitals for Opera New Zealand and has toured the country twice with Chamber Music New Zealand. French-born Cellist, Vladimir Waltham, a master’s graduate from the Guildhall School performs chamber music with both of his award winning chamber ensembles and has given concerts in all of London’s major venues.
This concert features two singers, mezzo soprano Chloë Treharne and baritone Piran Legg. Chloë, a master’s student, has taken part in master classes with a number of today’s leading singers, and has recently made her Barbican Hall debut as alto soloist in Stravinsky’s Mass. Piran is currently on the Opera Course at Guildhall. He has appeared in recital at the Oxford Lieder Festival and at the Barbican Hall, while making his operatic debut at the International Wexford Festival.
