Leading recorder player Christopher Orton demonstrates the resourcefulness and flexibility of the recorder in this programme, combining classics from flute and violin repertoire, with a contemporary commission by Thomas Simaku. Simaku won the 2009 British Composers’ Award for Instrumental Solo or Duo with Soliloquy V – Flauto acerbo, which, the judges unanimously agreed, 'redefines the instrument in a visionary and entirely original way’.
