  1. 3 Fantasiestücke, arranged for double bass and piano Op 73 - Robert Schumann
  2. Nocturne No 8 in D flat, for piano Op 27 No 2 - Fryderyk Chopin
  3. Sonata for Flute and Piano in D Op 94 - Sergey Prokofiev

Schumann’s well-loved Fantasiestücke is played on many different instruments, and here is transformed on the double bass. Each movement has its own character and mood: nostalgia, tender and expressive; relaxation, light and playful; vigour, fiery and passionate.

The first of his nocturnes to be published as a pair, Chopin’s popular Op 27 complement each other beautifully: the feverish intensity of the first is contrasted by the serene lyricism of the second, heard here.

Prokofiev’s luminous Sonata for Flute and Piano radiates with optimism and joy, and it is hard to believe it was written during the years that the composer was evacuated from his home country during World War II. It opened to astonishing success in Moscow, its playful elegance and sparkling lines delighting audiences.
