  1. Sleigh Ride, 'Winter Night' - Frederick Delius
  2. Variations on a Rococo Theme in A (original version) Op 33 - Pyotr Tchaikovsky
  3. Symphony No 5 in C sharp minor - Gustav Mahler

Gustav Mahler’s 5th Symphony, his first purely instrumental and non-programmatic symphony, spans many human feelings: Despair, Grief, Anger, Anxiety, profound Love (in the famous Adagietto) and finally explosive Joy. Prepare to be swept away by this emotional and virtuosic juggernaut.

Joseph Spooner ('a joy to listen to' - The Times) returns to Bristol to delight us with Tchaikovsky’s neo-classical Variations on a Rococo Theme, heard here in Tchaikovsky's rarely-performed original version with all eight variations in the order intended by the composer, as opposed to the more commonly-known seven variation version as altered by cellist Wilhelm Fitzhagen which found its way into publication. Read more about the two versions here.

For a distinctly seasonal flavour, the concert will open with one of Delius’s Three Small Tone Poems - the delightful Winter Night (Sleigh Ride).

There will be a retiring collection in aid of Parkinson's UK.
