The Vertavo Quartet is internationally recognised as one of the most exciting and engaging string quartets playing today. Some will already know their cellist Bjørg Lewis from other concerts in the area. Since their formation in Norway in 1984, their dynamic and commanding performances have captivated audiences. In June 2005, the quartet was honoured with the Grieg Prize, Norway’s highest musical honour. Vertavo play at all the major concert venues throughout the world. They have a particular affinity for contemporary music, while their diverse discography includes Schumann and Brahms, as well as Bartok and Nielsen, their Debussy and Grieg recording receiving the Diapason d’Or. Collaboration also plays an integral role in the Vertavo Quartet’s concert life, and they have formed partnerships with, among others, Paul Lewis, Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Leif Ove Andsnes.
