Christ Church Spitalfields starts its Spring/Summer 2012 Season with a delightful evening of music for string quartet set in the nave of this 1729 Nicholas Hawksmoor church, the 'St Paul's of the East End".
Christ Church is pleased to welcome the Evropska Quartet.
“…intoxicating vigour, seamless ensemble and perceptive phrasing . . . This is a quartet to watch.” Seen and Heard International, 2011
Recently returning from a year in Prague, this young British quartet will be performing Janacek’s intensely passionate and evocative first string quartet. This popular quartet sits proudly among the wonderfully rich musical tradition of the Czech Republic, and The Evropska Quartet were fortunate enough to study the work with the Skampa Quartet whilst in Prague, who themselves have a great lineage extending back to the composer himself.
The evenings concert also includes Schumann’s first string quartet in A minor, one of only three works he wrote for string quartet, composed in just one month during a period of manic creativity in 1842, and Haydn's ever popular and much loved 'Fifths' quartet.
The current season of concerts are being held to raise money for the Christ Church Piano Fund, aiming to bring a Bosendorfer Concert Grand to this arts and heritage venue.
Christ Church Spitalfields is situated at the corner of Commercial Street and Fournier Street. Nearest tube Liverpool Street/Aldgate East.
