  1. Sonata for Flute and Continuo No 1 in G minor (version for oboe and keyboard) BWV 1020 - Johann Sebastian Bach
  2. String Quartet No 1, 'The Kreutzer Sonata' - Leoš Janácek
  3. Quartet for Piano, Violin, Viola and Cello in E Flat major Op 47 - Robert Schumann

The sonata by Bach, which features an elaborate keyboard part unusual for the time, was reworked for flute, and was heard at the Crucible Theatre on 9 October.

Based on Tolstoy’s tale of jealousy, passion, adultery and murder, The Kreutzer Sonata is full of contrasting moods, tempos and melodies set against one another.

Written in his so-called “chamber music year”, Schumann’s quartet has an infectious youthful energy.
