"The G Project" is an exciting and virtuosic collaboration between cellist Gabriella Swallow and percussionist Genevieve Wilkins. Both musicians are renowned for breaking the boundaries of the perceived classical stereotype and their union in the G Project is no exception. The G Project’s vibrant and individual performing style is continually reflected in the diverse works they commission and perform. Current commissions from British composers include Mark-Anthony Turnage, Luke Styles, classical turntablist Shiva Feshereki, Solfa Carlile, Michael Henry and Jazz pianist Andrew McCormack.
Individually Gabriella and Genevieve are accomplished and diverse musicians.
Gabriella was awarded the Tagore Gold Medal in July 2003 in her final year at the Royal College of Music and since then she has enjoyed a flourishing career as a soloist, chamber musician and broadcaster and since 2007 has been principal cello of The London Contemporary Music Group. Gabriella has performed Hugh Wood’s Cello Concerto (RCM Sinfonietta) Paul Max Edlin’s Concerto (Southbank Sinfonia) and in 2007 she made her Southbank debut as one of the soloists in Mark-Anthony Turnage’s ‘About Water’ with the London Sinfonietta under Stefan Asbury. As a member of the London Archduke Trio she released a recording of Hugh Wood’s chamber music on the Toccata Classics label. She is one of the regular guests on BBC 4’s coverage of the Proms.
Genevieve is an Australian multi-percussionist, based in London. She is a member of “ensemblebash”, UK’s premiere percussion ensemble and she also performs regularly with composer Andrew Poppy’s “Sustaining Ensemble” and the band of world/jazz bassist Nathan Riki Thomson. Genevieve has performed with and/or recorded with Lionel Richie, Akon, Joanna MacGregor, Nash Ensemble, Karen David, DJ Panko (Ojos de Brujo), DJ Pathaan, Alex Wilson, Gavin Bryars, Dekata Project, Olly Fox, John.
