On 8th March 2019 in St James Piccadilly the Solarek Piano Trio will present a rare opportunity to hear music by extraordinary female composers from the 19th and 20th century. Some of them have been almost completely forgotten like the German Johanna Senfter who’s handwritten scores of about 134 works lie mostly unpublished. Two French composers, Germaine Tailleferre and Lili Boulanger will shine a light on the talent and diversity of French female music which only now started to be recognised and is still not nearly enough present in today's concert halls. There will be a taste of music by the Croatian composer Dora Pejacevic who is hardly known beyond the borders of Croatia. The dramatic music of the English Rebecca Clarke will conclude the evening.

The Solarek Trio are collaborating for this event with author Anna Beer, a Fellow of Kellogg College, University of Oxford, whose 2016 celebration and exploration of the achievements of female composers through the centuries, ‘Sounds and Sweet Airs: the Forgotten Women of Classical Music’, was shortlisted for the RPS Creative Communication prize. Anna has worked with a number of musicians since the book’s publication aiming to bring these previously neglected composers’ works to new audiences.
