  1. Sonata for oboe and piano - Francis Poulenc
  2. Temporal Variations, for oboe and piano - Benjamin Britten
  3. Soliloquy for oboe and piano - Sir Edward Elgar
  4. Sonata for oboe and piano in D Op 166 - Camille Saint-Saëns

These sonatas by French composers Francis Poulenc and Camille Saint-Saëns are glorious pillars of the solo oboe repertoire, here beautifully complemented by oboe pieces from two of the 20th century’s greatest English composers. While Saint-Saëns’s piece pays fond respects to the traditions of classical sonatas from an earlier era, Poulenc’s work has a dark and hauntingly beautiful tone.
