We round off the 2019 Petersfield Musical Festival with a performance of Brahms's German Requiem.
Although the texts are Biblical, Brahms’s Requiem is not a liturgical work but a sustained meditation cast in the form of an extended choral symphony, its moods encompassing despair, hope and consolation. Claire Seaton, who has delighted so many Petersfield audiences in the past, returns as soprano soloist, partnered by Gareth Brynmor John, winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Award 2013. The Requiem is complemented by music from Brahms’s hero, Beethoven, and his protege Dvorák.
The 2019 Petersfield Musical Festival runs from 15 to 23 March, with an exciting programme of concerts, and a wide range of performers and music - including choral, orchestral, traditional Greek music, solo instrumental, and jazz.
