  1. Fantasia upon one note - Henry Purcell, arranged for wind and brass by Andrew Manze
  2. Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B minor Op 104 - Antonín Dvorák
  3. Symphony No 2, 'A London Symphony' - Ralph Vaughan Williams

Two distinguished performers team up with the Hallé to perform what is simply the greatest of all cello concertos. When Brahms heard Dvorák’s masterpiece for the first time he was astonished, saying he wished he could have written it himself. Packed with both melodies and virtuosity, Jian Wang will more than meet its many challenges. The music of Vaughan Williams is something of a specialism for Andrew Manze. He is a superb choice to conduct ‘A London Symphony’, one of the English composer’s most imaginative, evocative and atmospheric creations.

Pre-concert talk: Andrew Manze in conversation. The talk will commence on the raked seating at 6.30pm. Tickets cost £3 and include a complimentary drink.
