Lewisham Choral Society presents a concert celebrating the music of Antonín Dvorák: two joyful choral works and his charming Sonatina for piano and flute. Lovers of Dvorák’s symphonies will recognise the same lyrical, folk-influenced style in these delightful works. The Mass in D ripples along, its movements in turn lively, dramatic and serenely peaceful. The Te Deum begins and ends with exultant choruses that frame quieter contemplative passages and a whirling dance - a reminder of Dvorák’s Bohemian roots. His father was, after all, the village dance-band leader!

To perform the Sonatina, we welcome leading flautist Jennifer Stinton. Jennifer performs frequently at home and abroad as a soloist with leading orchestras and as a chamber player and has made many recordings. Gifted organist and pianist Martyn Noble is currently Musician-in-Residence at Highgate School and is also sub-organist at St. James’s Palace. Martyn also performs as a piano accompanist at both the Royal College and Academy of Music and works with choirs and in musical theatre.

Lewisham Choral Society is one of London’s most accomplished community choirs. A large choir of around 200 voices, their repertoire ranges from ancient to modern. They perform regularly at major venues such as London's Southbank. They have performed twice in Paris and recently in Berlin. They enjoy participating in varied events, such as working with the Young Vic, singing at the Paralympic Games ceremony and even accompanying a punk band! Their director, Dan Ludford-Thomas, is a talented conductor, teacher and choral director of a number of choirs. He coached the NHS and Citibank choirs in the BBC’s ‘The Choir’ series and has recently been appointed as Director of the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain.
