This double bill of Julia Donaldson favourites The Gruffalo’s Child and The Highway Rat with live orchestral soundtracks offers the perfect panto alternative for all ages. Following the success of The Gruffalo, Stick Man and Room on the Broom in previous seasons, the Orchestra of Opera North returns to perform more magical René Aubry scores along with the enchanting animations.

When the Gruffalo’s child disobeys her father’s warning, our heroine sets out on a magical adventure into the deep, dark wood. The delightful sequel to The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child is a number one best-seller, and a must for the Christmas calendar.

Premièred last year on BBC One on Christmas Day, The Highway Rat tells the tale of a ravenous rat who, craving all sweet things, tears along the highway searching for sugary treats to steal, until his sweet tooth leads him to a sticky end. With the voices of David Tennant (highway rat), Rob Brydon (narrator), Frances de la Tour (rabbit), Tom Hollander (squirrel), Nina Sosanya (duck) and Husaam Kiani (kitten).
