‘Opera Viva!’, presented by the Marches Choir, is to be an evening of musical exuberance in the ballroom at Walcot Hall. The choir will be joined by the Marches Sinfonia, as well as members of Aber Opera. The concert will feature some of the opera world’s most delightful repertoire, with music by Bizet, Verdi, Mascagni, Offenbach, Puccini and Tchaikovsky amongst others.

The choir’s performance will be enhanced by the full, rich sonorities of an orchestra, with guest soloists singing well-known arias such as Habanera and Toreador Song from Bizet’s Carmen, and the duet Barcarolle from Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffman. Two highlights will be Mascagni’s great Easter Hymn from his Opera Cavalleria Rusticana and Verdi’s Grand March from Aida, with their wonderful melodies and portrayal of expressive power. Other music in the concert featuring the choir will be the famous and exciting Anvil Chorus (Il Travatore) by Verdi, and the Harvest Chorus (Eugene Onegin) by Tchaikovsky.

Conductor and Musical Director, Alistair Auld, says: "Opera Viva! will give the Marches Choir an opportunity to present a very different programme of music to their audience than in recent years, at a stunning venue in which they have not yet performed. This is an evening of sheer exuberance with over fifty performers bringing Grand Opera to South Shropshire. I am very excited about this concert, with its theatrical and entertaining appeal. The ballroom at Walcot Hall is an ideal venue for Opera with an elegant ambience and wonderful acoustics. An event not to be missed!"
