  1. Overture, from Hansel and Gretel - Engelbert Humperdinck
  2. Concerto for violin and orchestra in E minor Op 64 - Felix Mendelssohn
  3. Symphony No 1 in D, 'Titan' - Gustav Mahler

Engelbert Humperdinck's charming overture to Hansel and Gretel leaves a tantalising trail of breadcrumbs towards the two musical masterpieces to follow:
Mendelssohn's effervescent and hugely popular Violin Concerto - for which we welcome back violinist Eloisa-Fleur Thom who is sure to impress with both the stunning virtuosity and soaring lyricism of her playing which are to be found in abundance in this magnificent work - and Mahler's 1st Symphony. From the astonishing opening (marked to be played 'like a sound of nature'), through the funeral march based on 'Frère Jacques' to the joyous finale, this symphony (one that changed the genre forever) displays Mahler at his youthful and exuberant best.
