Edward Elgar is often thought of as a pinnacle of the British musical establishment, but this wasn't so much the case in his lifetime. Today, his music is more popular than ever, loved and performed all over the world. Scherzo Ensemble, orchestra and chorus will celebrate his legacy with some carefully selected masterpieces from diverse genres.

Scherzo, with string orchestra, will perform poetic and intricate secular works in the first half. After the interval, they will swell to a chorus for a collection of powerful and inspiring anthems, usually heard with organ but here in full orchestral version.

Profits to the parish St James', Spanish Place.

Scherzo is a vocal consort based in London, formed of young soloists-in-training who come together to make music in collaborative ensemble. We give intimate informal recitals, alongside larger grander programmes, with ensembles and orchestras.
