Imagine yourself in glorious Venice, striding out across St Mark’s Square for a concert of brilliant Vivaldi. Or think of yourself in the magnificent Leipzig Thomaskirche, ready to listen to JS Bach at his finest. The Hanover Choir and Orchestra will transport you, without any tiresome queuing or airports, to just that place, all for a fraction of the price of a tourist ticket.
If you haven’t heard Vivaldi's Gloria, it’s the superlative example of his greatest period, beaming with sunshine and joyfulness. It was written for one of the first ever celebrity charity concerts, supporting the orphanage for the illegitimate daughters of Venetian noblemen. The Bach Magnificat is another dazzling work, based on the gospel account of the Virgin Mary learning about her pregnancy. This is the work that influenced Beethoven, Brahms, Wagner, Verdi and dozens of other great musicians, and you too can be inspired by Bach's vision.
The Hanover Choir is accompanied by our chamber orchestra, providing an exciting yet not overpowering backing to the choral parts.
St Mary at Hill church, the venue is one of Wren's greatest achievements, parts of which date from the 14th Century. It's survived the Great Fire of London, the Blitz and modern property developers, yet still retains a fine acoustic that's just right for these pieces. Located just off Eastcheap, it's an easy walk from Monument, Tower Hill or Bank tube stations.
