We welcome back to St Peter's the award-winning Rautio Piano Trio, one of Britain’s most dynamic chamber ensembles, critically acclaimed for their innovative programming and captivating performances. Schubert’s second piano trio, written in the last year of his life, is one of the greatest works in this form, full of passion, pathos, perhaps even anger, but equally saturated with joy, grace and triumphant beauty. Rachmaninov’s first piano trio was written while he was still a student, and was probably intended as a homage to Tchaikovsky. Ravel wrote only one piano trio; it brings a fresh voice and skilfully crafted structure to the traditional form.
