This spring, Ad Libitum performs beautiful music from four different eras. The Missa Papae Marcelli, Palestrina's best known mass, is a prime example of Renaissance polyphonic choral music. The Catholic Church's mid 16th century decrees about church music might have led to polyphany being banned in churches altogether but in this elegant, multi-layered work Palestrina also managed to clearly convey the words and meaning, winning the Church's approval.

The concert also features the masterful Salve Regina by Haydn and stirring shorter works by John Blow and the popular contemporary composer, Arvo Pärt.
