  1. Chanson de nuit, for violin and piano Op 15 No 1 - Sir Edward Elgar
  2. Lachrymae: Reflections on a song of John Dowland, for viola and piano Op 48 - Benjamin Britten
  3. The Lark Ascending (original version for violin and piano) Op 50 - Ralph Vaughan Williams

In the first of five concerts featuring insight and discussion from members of Ensemble 360, the musicians guide you through some of the great classics of English string music. Benjamin Britten, in common with Vaughan Williams, drew inspiration from the first great age of English music, the Elizabethan era – his Lachrymae for viola and piano quotes Dowland’s exquisite songs If my complaints and Flow my tears. The concert also features Vaughan Williams’s sublime The Lark Ascending in its original version from 1914.
