This UK Tour concert is showcasing the quintessence of western contemporary and Chinese traditional music of all countries along the Silk Road using classical Chinese musical instruments, voice and dance. The whole concert comprises four parts: Origin of Silk Road, Silk Road Romance, Silk Road Dream and Silk Road Chinese Voice.
The concert features several Chinese adaptations of famous western musicals including Les Miserables, The Phantom of The Opera, and My Fair Lady, as well as Chinese early poetry songs such as Guanju, Yangguan Sandie and modern Swan Goose with Mongolian folk music. They also perform the ancient Chinese dance in the Dunhuang fresco of the Silk Road - Dunhuang Flying Apsaras which combines dancing and traditional instruments Guzheng and Pipa to highlight the vibrancy and diversity of its art work.
This concert selects the key Chinese musical instruments: erhu, guzheng, pipa and bamboo flute and piano alongside classical soprano, baritone and tenor voice. The artists wear ethnic costumes to show the Chinese multi-national cultures, and also wear Han Chinese costume to revive the style of the literati in the Han and Tang dynasties.
China’s Sounds of the Silk Road Conductor Li Zhenghua is “delighted to bring our Chinese New Year Spectacular show to the UK for the first time. We have performed in France and Italy and believe UK audiences will also enjoy our concert which combines traditional dance and music from the east with popular musical numbers from the west. It is also a special time for us and an honour to share our Chinese new year traditions and celebrations with a UK audience.
