Known affectionately as “the suburban Ronnie Scott’s” and more usually reserved for the genre of music which bears its name, the iconic Jazz Room at The Bull’s Head in Barnes plays host to two internationally-renowned and critically-acclaimed classical musicians for a special Valentine’s Day Concert on Wednesday 14 February.
Violinist David Le Page and pianist Viv McLean are regular duo partners in addition to pursuing busy solo careers, and their special empathy and musical sensitivity make for compelling performances. The intimate size of the Jazz Room is perfect for an evening of romantic classics, readings of poetry and prose on the theme of love by actress Susan Porrett, plus some quixotic surprises to make this an unforgettable Valentine’s Day celebration.
“Extraordinary originality, superb simplicity, and fingers of steel hidden behind muscles of velvet…..[Viv McLean] plays with the genius one finds in those who know how to forget themselves, naturally placing themselves at the right point to meet the music, this mystery of the moment…..” - Le Monde, Paris
“[David Le Page’s] unique sense of creativity infuses everything he does. His own music has a strong personal voice, full of improvisatory flair and independence of thought – and, like his interpretations of the classical repertoire, seems driven by a deeply poetic spirit.” - The Independent
“Susan Porrett - sharp as a tack” - Libby Purves
“Susan Porrett steals every scene in which she plays....” - British Theatre Guide
