Join London Concertante in their journey between 18th century Italy and 20th century England in a stunning programme of sublime classical music in the magnificent setting of Southwark Cathedral.

London Concertante is one of the finest chamber ensembles in the country, its players brought together through a shared passion for chamber music. The group has the rare ability to combine flexibility of instrumental grouping and consistently maintain superb artistic endeavour. With an enviable array of critical acclaim, a stunning selection of recordings on such prestigious labels as Chandos, Toccata Classics and Harmonia Mundi, and performances throughout the UK and Europe, London Concertante rightfully claims its position at the forefront of classical performers in the UK.

Travel between the rural rivers of England and the exotic canals of Venice in this concert of two halves. Headlined by the Italian maestro's well known Baroque masterpiece, The Four Seasons, revel in Vivaldi’s compositional masterpiece as he evokes the character and mood of the seasons in turn, tracking each sunrise with luscious violin melodies and every storm through aggressive and forceful cello motifs. Return to the sounds of Shropshire with the Folk inspired Introduction and Allegro by arguably England's most successful composer, Sir Edward Elgar. Expect typically Elgarian features with a particularly sublime and lyrical solo viola melody based on a folk tune he heard sung while holidaying in Wales. This is followed by Vaughan Willliams's The Lark Ascending, a pastoral work of transcendent power and beauty, with its devilishly difficult yet effortlessly fleeting melodies that conjure images of the passing birds and rolling hills. Come and hear why this piece is often regarded as the greatest English masterpiece of the 20th century.

If you don’t consider yourself ‘in the know’ about Mozart, Beethoven, or Bach, fear not, this is the orchestra for you. The London Concertante boasts a remarkable audience record in which an impressive 50% of spectators are first time classical concert goers! The London Concertante has its audience laughing at jokes, gasping at virtuosity, moved by gorgeous string playing, and leaving with a smile on their faces.
