  1. Vespro della Beata Vergine, 'Vespers' (1610) - Claudio Monteverdi

“The end of all good music is to affect the soul.” Claudio Monteverdi

The Vespers of 1610, with sackbuts and cornetts, will transport you straight to St Mark's Basilica, Venice. With its towering magnificence and rhythmic vivacity, interwoven with moments of tender reverence, this work is the ultimate showcase of the Venetian renaissance. The Lord Mayor of Exeter’s charity concert sparkles into life with the virtuoso period instrument group The English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble and the a cappella group Voces8. Completing the line-up is Schola Exe, a choir of Devon’s young voices.

Exeter Festival Chorus has chosen this as the centrepiece of its 25th anniversary celebrations.
