Friday November 17, 2017 at 13:05
St Mary-at-Hill Church, London
Free admission – no ticket required

  1. 1st movement: Allegro vivace, from Piano Quartet No 1 in C minor Op 1 - Felix Mendelssohn
  2. On Wings of Song (Auf Flügeln des Gesanges) Op 34 No 2 - Felix Mendelssohn
  3. Symphony No 5 in D, 'Reformation' Op 107 - Felix Mendelssohn, arranged for chamber quintet by Stuart Whatton

For the closing concert of our 'Yes of the Heart' Festival, marking the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's 95 Theses and the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, we offer a delightful all-Mendelssohn programme. The main work will be Mendelssohn's 'Reformation' Symphony, being premiered in a new chamber quintet arrangement by the festival's artistic director Stuart Whatton. Luther's famous 'Ein feste Burg' chorale melody forms the backbone of the final movement.

The 'Here I stand' series of posters, with interesting background information on Luther and the Reformation, will be on display in the church, and there will also be a table sale/silent auction of Luther-related memorabilia.

Free admission, retiring collection; light refreshments available before and after the concert.
