On Thursday 2nd November we welcome Hyun Jung Won for our lunchtime concert.

With the big successes of recently winning the first prize from The 15th Don Vincenzo Vitti International Piano Competition, The 15th Padova International Piano Competition in Italy, and Danubia International Piano Competition in Hungary, Hyun Jung Won made herself an internationally active concert pianist. She started studying music in South Korea at age four. She graduated from Yewon Art School and Music College of Ewha Womens University.

In Korea, she won many prizes in competitions including Samik competition, Korea-German Brahms association competition, and Korea Music Association competition. Also, Ms. Won was chosen to present a Young Artist Debut Recital at Mozart Hall, sponsored by Eum-Youn, a famous Korean journal in Korea.

After finishing her Bachelor’s degree in Korea, Ms. Won came to the United States to pursue a Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music. In April 2016, she accomplished her doctoral degree in Piano Performance at the University of Michigan. Her teachers have included Douglas Humpherys and Logan Skelton.

Her repertoire spans baroque to modern music, but with a special emphasis on the core Classical repertoire of CPE Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven. Ms Won has a particular creative interest in the performance practice of this period, having composed many of her own embellishments, varied repeats, cadenzas, fragment completions. One special project involved making an integrated suite out of fragments taken from Mozart’s baroque-style compositional studies, and she premiered the piece in the recital at Centro Municipal Integrado de “Pumarin”, Gijón, Spain in 2016.

In July 2017, Ms Won finished her Artist Diploma studies at the Royal College of Music in London, with the world’s most distinguished concert pianist, Peter Jablonski, and is expecting to give recitals building her professional reputation all over the Europe and to help young professionals to pursue their music studies.

Please join us if you can. Bring your lunch if you wish or join us for light refreshments in our community cafe afterwards.
