The Brighton Singers chamber choir present an evening of seasonal choral works both acapella and with organ accompaniment. The choir is conducted by Stuart Hutchinson and the organ is played by Nicholas Houghton.

The programme is called Radiant Light to reflect the joyous theme of Christmas and Advent music. It comprises a variety of beautiful choral pieces. Renaissance and Baroque items include Palestrina’s motets Hodie Christus natus est and Fuit homo missus a Deo, Scheidt’s In Dulci Jubilo , Jacob Handl’s Ecce concipies, together with Mozart’s Sancta Maria, Mater Die.

Contemporary composers also feature. Of Chilcott’s Canticles of Light the composer writes: “Within my piece, the texts in the first two sections Te lucis ante terminum and Christe qui splendor et diesactually speak of darkness — they ask for God's light to protect us through the night and to allay our fears. The last O nata lux speaks with a more positive and hopeful voice, that God's light will give us hope with the new light of the day.”

Music by William Mathias and Arnold Bax are also included.

Mulled wine and mince pies will be available during the interval.
