The concert will cover a wide variety of our current repertoire, including a selection from Howell’s Requiem and Rachmaninov’s Vespers. If you’ve never heard the choir before, then be prepared to be blown away by our quality and love of music-making. We sing predominantly unaccompanied and perform everything entirely from memory, allowing a real connection with the audience.
We are delighted to be partnering with Army Benevolent Fund The Soldiers’ Charity for this special concert on Armistice Day. The concert will be raising money for The National Charity of the British Army, who provide lifelong support to soldiers and veterans, as well as their immediate families, when they are in need.
Their vision is ‘That all soldiers, veterans and their immediate families should have the opportunity to avoid hardship and enjoy independence and dignity.’ This is delivered by making grants to individuals through their Regiments and Corps and by supporting a wide range of specialist charities that sustain the British Army ‘family’, both at home and around the world.
ABF The Soldiers’ Charity take pride in being responsive and making a difference at a critical point in peoples’ lives. They have been doing this since 1944, working with veterans of every conflict, and they envisage continuing doing so for the ‘long haul’ – supporting all future generations of our soldiers and their dependants.
This concert will take place at the beautiful Douai Abbey, which is home to a community of monks of the English Benedictine Congregation. Under the patronage of St Edmund, King and Martyr, they were founded in Paris in 1615. After being uprooted by the French Revolution they established themselves at Douai in Flanders, before finally settling in Woolhampton in 1903.
